The principality of Monaco has four categories of residence permit:
Spouse of a person with Monegasque citizenship (conjoint monégasque)
Temporary residence permit
This residence permit is issued to all persons who wish to settle in Monaco for the first time. There is no requirement for a previous minimum stay in Monaco. This “temporary” residence permit is valid for one year and can be renewed at the end of the year. The costs amount to 10 EUR.
Regular residence permit
The previous minimum stay for this category is three years. This means that you must have lived in Monaco for at least three years in order to apply for a regular residence permit. It is valid for three years and the fee is 15 EUR.
Privileged residence permit
You can apply for this residence permit if you have lived in Monaco for 10 years. It is valid for 10 years but may be reduced by one year in special cases. The fee is 30 EUR.
Spouse of a person of Monegasque nationality
This residence permit is issued to any spouse who is married to a person of Monegasque nationality and has lived in the principality for at least one year. This residence permit is valid for five years. The fee is 20 EUR.
